Sweden's two funniest comedians a hundred years ago

Victor Lundberg (on the left) and Oscar Bæckström.

In 1906 the Swedish actors Victor Lundberg and Oscar Bæckström posed for the photographer.
The weekly Hvar 8 Dag, which described them as the country's two foremost comedic actors, also  explained the difference between Danish and Swedish actors:

"Swedish actors do not usually like the kind of grotesque masking that is popular among their Danish colleagues, particularly comedians. In this regard they are close to the French tradition."

Oscar Bæckström and Victor Lundberg follow the Swedish tradition and "mask themselves and act in a discrete manner", wrote the weekly, adding that you never have any problems hearing what they say, as their phrasing is exemplary.
